Family

Blindsided, I guess.

I stopped at CVS on the way home tonight to pick up a few things. Decided to browse through the greeting card section because, for me, June has a ton of “events” to celebrate. Parents’ anniversary, aunt’s anniversary, birthdays…
Father’s Day.
I picked out my two Father’s Day cards for my dads, and then started to look [...]

Awww… My “baby” brother and sister are growing up.

Both my brother and sister went to the prom Saturday night. Terri is a junior, and Martin graduated two years ago, but his “friend” is still in high school, so he went as her date.

Bad event planning, storms, horrible bathroom stall grammar… and great music

It just occurred to me that I haven’t yet chronicled the past weekend. We left Friday after work for the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. I was SO ready to see Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Jonathan Butler, Rick Braun, etc. We got into town and picked up Mike’s brother and sister-in-law, then headed to the Ritz Theater. [...]

Happy birthday, Grandfather

See once in a while when it’s good It’ll feel like it should When you’re all still around And you’re still safe and sound And you don’t miss a thingSo you cry when you’re driving away in the dark. Singing stop this train I want to get out and go home again I can’t take [...]

Thinking of Grandfather today

I had a nice conversation with my Grandmother Friday evening. She was telling me about how much she misses Grandfather, and how lonesome she gets sometimes. We laughed about him hollering for help after his shower just a few months ago, wanting her to dry between his toes. LOL Neither one of us had ever [...]

At least they’re only once a year.

Sunday we had lunch at Red Lobster, then in the early evening went to a Super Bowl party at [...]

Bubbahead

My baby brother turned 20 yesterday.
I still remember January 27, 1987 like it was yesterday. I remember the principal coming to get me at my lunch table in the third grade to tell me I had a little brother. I remember seeing him later that day for the first time. He was chubby and reddish-yellow [...]

Grandfather

I went to Missouri this week for my Grandfather’s funeral. It was very difficult — physically and emotionally draining — but something I needed to do.
The visitation and services were beautiful. There was such an outpouring of love from so many people. His casket was pecan wood, and it was beautiful. It just looked like [...]

Goodbye

My grandfather, J.D. Schaffer, died yesterday. He had been sick for some time, and finally his heart just gave out. I flew to Fernandina Beach yesterday for a Civil Air Patrol meeting, and just as it was starting, my mom called me. As I was getting ready for my day, my grandfather slipped away.
Just [...]
