11-14-08

Today I and 30 other US Army Soldiers visited ground zero. We are all deployed Soldiers from the Army Reserve and most of us have deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan on past deployments. All of us are currently deployed to Ft Dix, NJ and we train up the Soldiers going to war.
I met Diane Horning today and I learned about Matthew, her son. I cried and I hugged Matt's Mom in the family remembrance center she and others have lovingly created at the top of the ramp that leads to ground zero.
As an Oklahoma City Police Officer charged with patrolling the Alfred P. Murrah Building area daily for several years, I have seen first hand how important it is to have a place for families to go and reflect, and the community and nation have a place to go and show their respect. Diane and the families have provided a great temporary place at ground zero for this.
I never knew Matthew but I will tell all readers and family members of this blog that Matthew is remembered daily. I could give you the names of 10 Soldiers, including myself, that have stayed in the Army another term to fight in remembrance of him and the others who perished on 9/11. He is worth fighting for- he is someone- not fallen ashes- but a spirit that drives us to fight and to defend and serve the people of the United States of America.
I will think of Matthew, his family, and loved ones everytime I put my US flag on my uniform along with the Army Soldier (SFC Clark) we reenlisted "indefinately" today at the base of ground zero.
Matthew lives on in all American Soldiers and he is in the eternal thoughts of those at the tip of the spear fighting for liberty and peace.
My condolences to all of his family and friends for this tremendous loss, and my gratitude for your support.

     With sincerest regards,

     Major Theresa Bunn

As someone who knew, loved, and misses Matt every moment of every day, it means a great deal to know that he continues to touch people who never knew him.

Thanks,
Maura

Isn't that horrible?! People should be ashamed of themselves. I did love his prayer though.

Speaking of prayers, good thoughts etc, keep us in mind. Trevor lost his job this week, but he applied for one in Knoxville, TN! Cross your fingers that he gets an interview up there. It's with the Oak Ridge National Laboratories. It's on the other side of the state from you, but it would be the same state! :-)

Mixed feelings. I think some alpha-geeks can understand the protectiveness of underappreciated sysadmins over their "babies" from clueless management types who drive it into the ground and make more work for them. This guy sounds like he was a bit too paranoid and certainly locking things down w/o telling anyone the admin password, to monitoring his other coworkers' attempts to monitor him, all sound like he lost sight of doing his job a while ago.

But all this bunk about a former felony conviction and $5 million bail is freaking awful. It's just playing into the public hysteria and misconceptions about "evil hackers" and all that crap. I genuinely feel bad for the guy.
